The TV series IC 814: Kandahar Hijack is inspired by a real incident. In 1999, Indian Airlines Flight 814 was taken over by hijackers at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport and was headed to Delhi. The hijackers demanded the release of terrorists in exchange for the safety of the passengers. The airplane was first intercepted at Raja Sansi Airport, Amritsar, India, Lahore Airport, Pakistan, Al Minhad Air Base, Dubai, UAE, and finally at Kandahar Airport, Afghanistan.
