This series is based on a true story. The Telgi scam, also known as the paper stamp scam, is a large-scale financial fraud that occurred in India in 2003. These included the forgery of stamps used to authenticate legal documents such as real estate transactions, contracts and affidavits. The series deals with the mastermind of the scam, Abdul Karim Telgi. He later shifted his focus to counterfeiting stamp papers after realizing the lucrative nature of the business.
A teaser for the film was released to the public on August 4, 2023, by Sony Liv for a 1992 fraud-related scam. Released by Sony LIV, Scam 1992 was rated 9.6 out of 10. Fans loved this series.
